Autumn Nudes and Matte Berries

Hi my lovelies, as I promised my next post would be back on the beauty/fashion track. Since last time I posted I've got myself a full time job (scary but so exciting) and have officially withdrawn from uni and moved back home. I am already 100 times happier and everyone can see that. I just want to take a quick minute to thank everyone who has been so supportive of my decision, especially my family, Chris and my ex (sad) housemates. Every little message or comment hasn't gone unnoticed and really meant a lot!

Anyway back on topic! Once I found out I'd got the job I immediately thought about the money I'll have to spend on clothes and make-up and automatically found myself browsing the web. I was on when I saw they now stock NYX cosmetics. I used to use NYX when I lived in Abu Dhabi and have since then seen people raving about certain products being amazing dupes for higher end brands. I picked up 2 of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams in 'Prague' and 'Stockholm' which I've heard to be pretty good dupes for the Stila stay all day liquid lipsticks (£16) and Limecrime Velvetines (£13.06). These are retailing at £5.50 so quite a bit cheaper than the other liquid lipsticks. I've never used either of the other 2 so can't give a comparison, however my first impressions are great! They smell amazing, go on really smooth and seem to last a while with no smudging.

Next I picked up the NYX Tame & Frame tinted brow pomade in 'brunette'. I wasn't even aware NYX sold a product like this! I have always wanted to buy the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade (£15) and I probably still will, however I did my research, and although not as good (which doesn't surprise me as ABH is the queen of all thing brows) the response was pretty good for the product. The brow pomade retails at £5.50 so almost £10 cheaper - so definitely a budget alternative.

Ever since swatching it months ago, I've been desperate to own the Stila Smudge Pot in 'kitten'. It's the most perfect shimmery champagne colour eye base and seeing as I wear gold every single day without fail I knew I'd get the wear from it. I finally bought it and I have no regrets. Stila claim it's waterproof gel eyeliner but obviously I'm not using it as an eyeliner, however it lasts for ages and doesn't smudge anywhere! It retails at £13 which is a little pricey for an eyeshadow but it is 110% worth it!

I also recently received the Eyeko London Fat Liquid Eyeliner Pen which I didn't take much notice of as I though it would be too thick to create a winged look with. However today I used it when testing out my other products and man have I been missing out! It applies and dries to a true black which is great, there's nothing worse than fading eyeliner, and is surprisingly easy to apply. It retails at £12 which I find reasonable for a decent eyeliner. My only concern is how long will it last - I find pen eyeliners to run out far too quickly because I wear eyeshadow. So far so good with this but only time can tell.

So as I'm sure like most people, once I got my goodies home I just had to try them out. I created an autumnal look with a gold smokey eye and berry lip using my new products and thought I'd share with you how - in case you want to recreate something similar or see how the products look on. (I tweeted a photo (@andreainglisx) of myself wearing the 'Stockholm' lip colour. I never wear nudes as I've said before but I actually quite like it).

Firstly, I applied 'kitten' all over my lid and inner corner. I applied 'half baked' over the centre third and 'chopper' over the outer third and crease - both from the Naked 2 palette. I then used 'faint' from the Naked basics palette in the crease and under my lower lash line. I used the Eyeko liner to create a winged line and applied 'Bad Gal' mascara from Benefit. If I was going out I would definitely add lashes, my current favourite are 'Ardell demi-wispies'.
I filled in my brows using the brow pomade and the eco-tools angled brush. I bronzed slightly with 'Hoola' by Benefit and added 'Peachtwist' blush by MAC to the backs of my cheeks. I used 'Prague' on my lips, I didn't use a liner but 'More to Love' by MAC would be perfect (I lost mine on a night out). I finished by highlighting under my brow and above my cheek bones with 'Soft & Gentle' by MAC.

I hope you all enjoyed today's post, a huge thank you for reading! Let me know if there is anything you would like to see on the blog soon.

♥ Andrea
